Training Videos For You!

Training Videos

We’ve been filming our own packing, how-to and training videos at our warehouse this winter. It’s something we’ve been planning to do for a long time and we’ve got our own ideas of how to do it. I’ve watched a lot of moving company packing videos on the internet over the years and the problem with most of them is they’re too long. Too much yakking, too much time with screens with some text on them, logos, and info that’s so obvious there’s no need to put it in the video. Some also over-narrate ideas that are obvious just watching the videos. That’s why you’re watching a video instead of just reading a web-page right? The important part of the video is… VIDEO. So we’ve tried to keep ours quick, tidy and to the point. We’ve time-lapsed all the boring stuff and included just the narration we think is needed. We want them to be short because every minute you’re watching our video, is a minute you’re not getting ready for your move which is the whole point right?

Also, these training videos are a great way for future customers to get a sense of who our workers are and what we’re all about. We’ll try and rotate most of our staff through and have everyone do some videos. I think it’ll be nice for our customers to learn to pack and prepare for their move with these, but then also be pleasantly surprised when the mover who taught them to pack their pictures shows up to move them! Please check them out and comment any suggestions on topics we should address or improvements that can be made. Thanks for checking it out.

How to pack a book box for moving

Packing book boxes sounds simple, but after a decade and a half of doing it there I’ve seen many get it wrong, and right. Joe outlines some best practices and details that might help people. Keeping it short at 1:27 means providing a high content to time ratio.

Kitchen Packing Basics

There’s heaps of kitchen packing and training videos out there on the internet, all of them are too long. Showing basic packing skills that can be universally applied to most kitchen goods is the best way to teach. We’ve got a good basic overview here that most customers will be able to run with. We’ll also be shooting more in-depth videos about very specific items (stemware, knives, pots&pans, open containers, food, etc). But if you’ve only got six and a half minutes to study before you get to your packing, I think there’s no better way than this. Joe did a great job being concise.

How to tape a box for moving

Box taping is very basic. This short video covers how to do it and offers some other basic advice on cardboard boxes and moving.

How to wrap a chair using 5″ stretch and a small blanket/pad

Ezekiel demonstrates how to quickly and efficiently wrap a chair using 5″ stretch wrap and a small pad. This video is meant for our internal training of new movers. I thought we’d share it with you so you can see how we wrap and bring our new hires up to speed. This isn’t how you’d wrap EVERY chair, but for the majority of kitchen and dining room chairs in most people’s homes it both good coverage, but also very quick. Perfecting the compromise of speed and care when moving is the ultimate goal of every mover. Being quick and keeping the bill down while also safely transporting the goods is always at the forefront of methods.

Thanks!
